Careers in the Automotive Industry

The automobiles today have features like stability and traction control systems, adaptive cruise control and variable valve timing.

To have a career as an automotive technician, young people should have expertise in maths, sciences, communication skills and technical skills.

Some advantages of being an automotive technician are that you don't have to attend college as long, which ultimately saves you getting into a lot of college debts, and you can get into the working world faster.

In the technician field, they predict we will have a 30% growth, with up to 237,500 new jobs available in 2020.

The automotive technician family is immune to outsourcing jobs.

Four jobs in the automotive technician industry are: parts distribution, collision repair, painting, and vehicle maintenance.

The automotive technician role is sometimes called “The Portal Career” because so many people have started their careers in the automotive aftermarket as an auto technician. It is considered the opposite of a dead-end career.

Some aspects of being an automotive technician that I think that I would enjoy would probably be nothing, I don't really think that an automotive technician would be something that I would ever want to do.

One or two things that I found interesting about the video was how many skills they need, such as communication skills. I didn't think that there was this many skills needed to be an automobile technician.

It would be important to be prepared for lifelong learning because cars are always going to be getting a lot newer and more advanced technology. So it would be good for the autimotive technicians to keep up to date with the latest technology.

I think automotive technicians should have good communication skills, problem solving skills, listening skills,teamwork skills, and speaking skills and they should be ready for all the new technology facing them.

Certification in the Automotive Industry

NATEF stands for National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation. Their job is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide at secondary and post-secondary, public and proprietary schools.

The ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence. Their job is to work and improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals. Almost 300,000 Automotive Technicians and Service Professionals hold ASE Certifications. ASE Certified Professionals work in every part of the automotive service industry, not just the auto shops.

Jobs in the Automotive Industry

If I had to pick one of these ten jobs I would probably pick the tenth one which is the super car engine builder because it is a quiet work space and you can work at your own pace and not worry about anything. One of the ten jobs that I would not work at would be the F-1 safety car driver because your life is in danger while your on the job.

Camera Techniques

Within the five videos I have just watched, I learned many new camera techniques such as Point of View and Framing. With the first video I learned about the Rule of Thirds. I found this video so interesting and I could not get over how much better the photo looked when he used the rule. The second video talked about Filling the Frame, which is basically taking a more close up photo and more focused on one thing. I thought that this video was very helpful because I always tend to take photos from far away, but now I know better. The next video was all about Framing. This video was probably my favorite, since all the end photos look so good and it's such a simple technique to use. Another thing I learned about today was Point of View. The part I liked best about this video was how cool and unique each of the photos were, I would never think to turn the camera upside down and take a photo of a building, but maybe now I'll reconsider. 3D Printed Car

Do you think the use of 3D printing can help car designers? Why or why not? No, I don't think it helped car designers at all. In fact, I think it's kind of a waste of time. If we already have a method of building cars that is fast, and works perfectly then there's no need to try and make it more technical, especially if i's going to take longer than the previous method. Do you think that cars would ever be manufactured this way? Explain your reasoning. I think that if we ever find a way to manufacture these types of cars faster and more efficient then maybe people would manufacture them this way, but if not then most car producers will probably stick to the old way and continue making the cars in a way suitable for everybody.
